About the artwork:
This was part of a commissioned work from Don Ross Caffe.
Ten tables were made by hand for a local cafe that serves a broad clientel. Many of the patrons are artists. I had to deliver the tables to the client for their opening night, which happened to be only two weeks away.
The design process started out with the notion that I would create a loose organic style for all of the tables. The cafe owner was found of Northern Italy (one of his favourite places) , and the Project Manager Matthew Flemming had chosen terra cotta, plum, cobalt , and burgundy for the basic colors. With that information I chose to create mosaics that reflected Italy's robust Vita: the landscape, the fruit, the flowers, and images of Don's travel stories to the area.
